The HBS Spooktacular concerts: Community Building Hour at HBS

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

We began our event within the afternoon performance from Zachary Bell on Piano and Marlowe and Emerson Mills-Mioda on Violin. Both students take private lessons with a RIC affiliated teacher after school at HBS during the week.

Our featured performance began with The Beat Ensemble followed by the HBS Chorus. Both groups are with students from 4th and 5th grade. The Beat is a new percussion ensemble of 18 students who performed music from all around the world on various percussion instruments like drums, rainsticks, guiro, shakera, and more. Their concert program songs were: Rainstorm, Traditional African Music, In Havana by Will Schmidt, and Thunder by Imagine Dragons.

The Chorus also performed music from different cultures plus some favorite songs and features students singing in unison and harmony with dance moves on some songs too. Their concert program was Do The Igor by Theresa Jennings, Calling All The Monsters by China Anne McClain, Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr. and Thriller by Michael Jackson.

For the evening portion of the event, students showed up in their spookiest Halloween costumes. The evening kicked off with performances by The Beat and HBS Chorus followed by special fundraising events like the fifth grade run Bingo, and 4th and 5th grades run Haunted Music Room, Spin The Wheel, Spooktacular Photo Booth, and more.

Our fundraising events were a great success! All funds will be used to pay for Gr. 5 field trip to Cape Cod in May and provide a portion to help Chorus and The Beat members purchase T-Shirts. We thank all of the students and families who participated and attended.
