¡Celebramos el Día de la Raza! We’re celebrating Hispanic Heritage month at HBS! On October 12, during our Friday Community Building Hour, HBS students were able to rotate through three different activities to celebrate Hispanic culture. One event was salsa dancing lessons with Ms. Bucci. We had fun listening to salsa music and learning some new moves! Another activity was a Spanish Speaking Countries fair set up by our amazing 5th-grade students. Each student chose one Spanish speaking country, created a TriFold display board about that country, displayed the country’s flag, and showed off some cool items from that country. Students and staff were able to learn new things about our Spanish speaking neighbors in the world. Finally, students got to make some “Papel Picado” (pierced paper). Traditionally, this type of decoration is made by pounding sharp spikes into a large stack of very thin sheets of paper. We made ours without the spikes (just scissors!), but they are still beautiful! Check out our colorful display in the HBS hallways! We had a fun day spending time with our buddies and learning about Hispanic culture! ¡Qué viva la Raza!
