Over the past week, the HBS community has been collecting hats, scarves, gloves, and socks to give to people in need. We collected so many gifts that will help so many people! Thank you for all of your generosity!
The hallways throughout the school were covered with a riot of colored strips all over the floor, and five minutes later, the leftover strips were all neatly resting in trays, organized by color, with nothing at all on the floors! Truly impressive. We are very fortunate to work with such a great group of students.
HBS students gathered in the cafeteria to hear from RIC student and veteran, Sergeant Jerome Musco. Sergeant Musco was a Military Police Officer in the Army National Guard in Iraq.
On Friday the 26th, J’ana Brooks and I handed out pink ribbons to as many teachers as we could, though sometime the following week before November we plan to hand out ribbons to the students and teachers who did not receive a ribbon yet.
Our featured performance began with The Beat Ensemble followed by the HBS Chorus. Both groups are with students from 4th and 5th grade. The Chorus performed music from different cultures with dance moves on some songs too.

¡Qué viva la Raza! We’re celebrating Hispanic Heritage month at HBS! On October 12, during our Friday Community Building Hour, HBS students were able to rotate through three different activities to celebrate Hispanic culture.
On Friday, September 28th, HBS learners and their teachers were lucky enough to experience a fun-filled weather-themed assembly featuring NYC Meteorologist Ron Trotta and NYC children’s book author, Elly McGuire, along with their furry celebrity pup named Schmitty!
