Grade 5 students at Henry Barnard School were given the task of researching food waste and promoting sustainability in Rhode Island. Composting food waste supports energy conservation, water conservation, and waste reduction. This film is the culmination of our findings.
Isla Blecker, a second-grader at Henry Barnard School, is the Rhode Island winner of the 11th annual Doodle for Google competition, one of 53 winners in her age group in the country.
The Henry Barnard Laboratory School at Rhode Island College has adopted the calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. The school year will begin on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, and the last day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2020.
On Friday, January 11th, the Community Building Hour focused on Health and Wellness. Students in 1st through 5th grades were paired with their buddies for three different engaging activities that promoted the mind and body.
Over the past week, the HBS community has been collecting hats, scarves, gloves, and socks to give to people in need. We collected so many gifts that will help so many people! Thank you for all of your generosity!
During November, the Kindergarten classes invite the entire Henry Barnard School community to bring in food items to help families for the Thanksgiving season. Each grade (Pre-K to 5th grade) is assigned a certain food item to help the Food Bank.
The hallways throughout the school were covered with a riot of colored strips all over the floor, and five minutes later, the leftover strips were all neatly resting in trays, organized by color, with nothing at all on the floors! Truly impressive. We are very fortunate to work with such a great group of students.
